Promoting quality education for all.

Just the Start

by Annika Erickson-Pearson,

Electoral politics are kind of depressing. You know what I mean, right? The other guy wins, and then there’s nothing we can do about it.

When I was finishing high school and beginning college, I spent a lot of time volunteering and working for political campaigns. The rush to get someone elected filled my extracurricular hours. Everything revolved around getting a person into office, but I never once stopped to think about what happened once that person got there. If my person lost, I felt hopeless, like there was nothing to be done.

And then I found the Global Campaign for Education-US (GCE-US).

GCE-US taught me that an election is just the start. They trained me in advocacy and in the political process, and helped me become a lean, mean, advocacy machine. I learned that even myself, a 19-year-old college student, could exercise influence over my members of Congress on a topic for which I cared deeply.

It’s a miracle for young people to feel like they are making a difference. It’s a gift to have someone notice you and invest in you.GCE-US changed my understanding of what’s possible in the political process, but also changed my understanding of what’s possible for leadership development in young people. Because of the training, I’ve dedicated my own life to helping young people become the authentic leaders we all know they can be.

I hope you’ll consider giving.

Your gift will support the right to education around the world. A reoccurring donation of just $42 dollars a month for a year can sponsor a future advocate's attendance to our Youth Advocacy Training.
