The Colorado Rapids recently joined local community leaders on April 21 to support the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) "Education for All" initiative, a global effort to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015. Currently, more than 72 million children around the world lack access to basic education, which is the single biggest obstacle to economic, social, and political development.

Leaders in the Denver community, including former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, Denver City Councilman Paul Lopez and Colorado Rapids Managing Director Jeff Plush, spoke at Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy in Denver during the Global Campaign for Education's "Global Action Week" (April 19-25) to addressing the importance of education and encouraged students and the Denver community to aid in their efforts. Several Colorado Rapids players, including Pablo Mastroeni and Conor Casey, were on hand to teach students a few soccer moves and engage them in learning more about this global issue. Harnessing the power and platform of sports, the Rapids hope to spark a dialog in the community and inspire kids to get involved in the cause.
