Promoting quality education for all.

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you

I don't watch scary movies. I went to a haunted house once, and will never go again. I'm a wimp, plain and simple; I'm okay with that. I find that there are enough scary things in the world that I don't need to go looking for things to make nightmares out of my dreams-education statistics alone provide enough fodder. We live in a world where almost 50 percent of the 61 million out of school children don't have a vampireghost of a chance of going to school; where vampires suck the life out of childhood and teenage education dreams before they can be fulfilled and where girls navigate life paths haunted with harmful practices such as child marriage that keep them from education.

So, before you head out to Fright Nights and trick-or-treating, take some time to act for education so we can make dreams out of nightmares.

The National Education Association is asking you to stand in support of Mahdi Abu Dheeb and Jalila al-Salman, two leaders of the Bahraini Teachers Union. In September 2011 they were convicted of attempting to overthrow the ruling system with force and inciting hatred of the current regime-a regime whose authorities have been found, by the Bahrain Independent Commission to have "grossly exaggerated, if not manufactured many claims brought against thousands of ordinary people who had been caught up in the February 2011 Arab Spring protests."
