Washington, D.C. - On Friday March 23, 2018, Congress passed the Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) spending omnibus appropriations bill, which will fund the U.S. government through September 30, 2018. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 256-167 and the Senate by a vote of 65-32, and the President signed it into law.

The omnibus overwhelmingly rejected the foreign affairs and international basic education cuts proposed by the Administration in FY18, illustrating strong bipartisan support in Congress for these critical programs. The bill appropriated $800 million for international basic education, which continues previous funding levels, and $87.5 million for multilateral partnerships that support global education, which is an increase of $12.5 million.

Through congressional support, the U.S. government and multilateral partners, such as the Global Partnership for Education, will be able to provide much needed leadership for global education initiatives and programs worldwide.
