Washington, D.C. - On February 12, 2018, President Trump released his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2019. The Global Campaign for Education-US (GCE-US) firmly opposes proposed cuts, which would negatively impact children and youth around the world. The United States must continue to act as a leader in international education and foreign assistance. We therefore urge Congress to fund foreign assistance and international basic education at the highest possible levels for FY18 and FY19.

Robust funding for foreign assistance and global education is critical to ensuring the world’s most vulnerable children and youth have access to universal, quality education. Global education is in the interest of the United States and the international community. Education enhances economic stability, bolsters national security, reduces poverty, and promotes personal accountability. Each additional year of schooling can raise a woman's future wages by as much as 15 percent.

“Strong funding for foreign assistance and global education is vital, promotes America’s humanitarian values, and bolsters the common goal of creating a secure, prosperous world,” stated Jennifer Rigg, Executive Director of the Global Campaign for Education-US.

Through robust funding for global education, the United States can help end poverty around the world and ensure global stability. International basic education is critical to providing the world’s most vulnerable children have access to quality education. It is crucial that foreign assistance and global education account be fully funded. We call on Congress to oppose any cuts to international basic education.
