Washington, DC - The White House is developing a package of rescissions targeting funds that Congress already approved. According to the Washington Post, the White House is considering cutting more than $3 billion from the foreign aid budget. The Trump Administration is planning to use an accounting gimmick to take away billions of dollars that help children in need around the world. This rescission package is expected to include substantial cuts to the State and Foreign Operations accounts, which might include international education for vulnerable children and youth who would otherwise be out of school.

What you can do: write your Members of Congress and urge them to contact Administration officials to express opposition to cuts to the foreign affairs budget and the international basic education accounts. Call on them to reject any rescissions that target the international affairs budget or international basic education programs and urge officials in the Administration to oppose any such cuts.

It is critical that we fully fund international basic education programs for vulnerable children and youth. On behalf of children around the world, thank you for your advocacy.

UPDATE: On August 28, 2018, it was confirmed that the White House is no longer planning a rescission proposal to cut foreign aid between now and September 30th.

Thank you for contacting your Members of Congress to halt these proposed budget cuts. Millions of children will be able to attend school because of your advocacy!
